Artist's Statement
“My photography is inspired by beauty, whether it is something that I see in the scenic outdoors or in the various people that I encounter. I love looking at the way the light or shadows fall on a subject, or to see a reflection or pattern emerging when studied beyond the usual glance. Being able to take an object or scene that normally wouldn’t propose a second look and find a unique prospective or mood to capture intrigues me.”

Artist's Bio
Award-winning photographer Kendal R. Miller of Dillsboro, IN was raised in the small river town of Elizabeth, PA and obtained a degree in business from Duff’s Business Institute in Pittsburgh. Through the years she has called both Panama City, FL and La Grange, KY home.

Kendal became fascinated with photography while working as a reporter with her high school newspaper. While her first camera was one given to her when she was 17, she didn’t pursue the art until freelancing as a needlework/craft designer for national publications. Having to photograph her works for editors, Kendal used the extra film to capture the local scenery.

The Fine Art Photography Gallery Collection of Photography by Kendal includes floral, barns, wildlife, sunsets, covered bridges, historical landmarks and more—from Northwest Florida to Canada. Kendal also works in photojournalism, event and commercial photography and outdoor portraits. Her work is represented in galleries in Florida, Kentucky and Indiana.

Kendal is also a freelance writer, having written community articles and humor columns for several newspapers. She has also written travel pieces and ready-to-run articles for an Indiana tourism office.

Having won awards for her photography and writing, Kendal has participated in both juried and non-juried gallery shows and exhibitions across Northwest Florida, Southeast Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. In 2011 she received awards from the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana—one entry went on to take a First Place in the National Federation of Press Women’s Communications Contest. Kendal has also judged arts and crafts shows for many organizations in Florida.

Kendal’s work has appeared in magazines and newspapers, and on books, CD covers, billboards, Websites, brochures and more. Her work is in many private collections across the United States, as well as several public collections in Florida and Indiana.

In June 2010, Photography by Kendal was inducted into the Indiana Artisan Program—one of only eight photographers in the state whose work was included.

Living with a neurological condition called cervical dystonia, Kendal has overcome other career obstacles having shattered her right wrist and adapted to hearing loss.

Kendal and her husband Lenny live in a 1800s farmhouse located on 143-acres in Ohio County, IN.
